Pompeii was founded in the seventh century BC simultaneously to the city of Rome. This small unruly and seemingly disorganized town soon became the goal of great powers because of the strategic position between Castellammare, Nola and Cuma. In fact it was first conquered by Cuma, Greek colony and later by the Etruscans. In the fall of 79 A.D. was buried by the ashes of the eruption of Vesuvius and the entire population was wiped out. Today excavations have uncovered the Roman city and have become with the Pyramids of Egypt's most visited tourist destination in the world. The excavations of Pompeii are a unique example of well-preserved Roman city, the ash and lava that buried the year at the same time preserved intact by allowing us to visit the interior of the houses and the rich villas. At the same time it was possible to obtain detailed information on life at the time that would otherwise be lost.
